Lyman also describes his mental preparation for mission trips and his appointment as president of the European Mission (Volume IV). The final pages of the last diary were filled in by Lyman's daughter, Lucretia Lyman Nix. The diary ends with Lyman's illness in October 1901, the month before he died.
